Three screens, nothing more

Most people give up on budgeting because keeping it takes too much work: a spreadsheet to fill in, dozens of categories to invent, a bank reconciliation to do every week. The budget assistant takes the problem the other way around.

  1. 01

    Dashboard

It answers a single question: am I holding my month? Your real income and spending, your balance, and your savings rate, meaning the share of your income you did not spend.

The curve lays the month you are viewing over the one before it, day by day, so you can place your spending pace at a glance. The line for the current month stops at today: a recurrence planned later in the month does not read as money already spent.

  2. 02

    Transactions

Your money in and out, one-off or monthly, entered in seconds. No category to invent: the catalogue is already there, and a free note is enough to find a purchase again later.

The add button follows you from screen to screen, and your filters stay within reach to find a specific expense in a busy month.

  3. 03

    Budget

Your budget is the same every month: a planned amount per category, sorted into broad groups like housing, transport or groceries. One bar per group shows where the money goes, and which of your envelopes is emptying too fast.

Income has its own block and is never added to expenses: a target for money coming in is not an envelope to spend.

Your first budget

You do not have to guess your amounts

The blank page is what stops most people. Give your monthly net income and a benchmark proposes a maximum amount per category. Accept it, choose the conservative version that tightens non-essential spending, or start from zero if you would rather set everything yourself.

Nothing is locked in: every amount can be changed later, once you see what your real spending says.

Entering it

Photograph the receipt, the fields fill themselves

The merchant, the date, the subtotal, the taxes and the total are read from the photo and carried into the form. You read it over, correct what needs correcting, and save. Nothing enters your budget without passing under your eyes.

Recurrences

What comes back every month is entered once

Rent, a subscription, an insurance premium: mark the transaction as monthly and it carries over automatically to the same day in every following month, starting from its start date. You only re-enter the unexpected. A one-off transaction counts only in its own month.

Your data stays yours

A finance tool is judged as much on what it refuses to do as on what it offers. Here is what you can count on.

  • No bank connectionYou are never asked for banking credentials, and the app never has access to your accounts.
  • Free, ad freeEvery feature is free. YieldMomo is funded by its partners, never by selling your data.
  • Your transactions belong to youThey are neither sold nor shared. You enter what you want, nothing more.
  • Leave whenever you wantDeleting your account is done from your preferences, and it erases budget, categories and transactions.

Why most budgets do not hold

A budget rarely fails because the amounts were wrong. It fails because keeping it took too much work. A spreadsheet to fill in, dozens of categories to invent, a bank reconciliation every Sunday: after three weeks the current month's column is still empty, and you no longer know where you stand.

The budget assistant takes the problem the other way around. The budget is set once, the expenses that come back every month are entered once, and only one daily gesture is left: noting what you just spent. The rest is calculated.

A budget is a frame, not a forecast

The most common confusion is redoing your budget every month so it matches reality. A budget adjusted after the fact says nothing any more: it always ends up being right, and it can no longer serve as a warning.

Here, the budget is the same every month. It is a maximum amount per category, sorted into broad groups (housing, groceries, transport). It is your real spending that varies, and the gap between the two is what carries the information. An envelope going over is not a data entry mistake, it is the month telling you something.

Planned amounts can be changed at any time, and the dashboard recalculates immediately. What matters is changing them because your situation changed, not because the month went badly.

The savings rate, the number that sums it up

Your savings rate is the share of the month's income you did not spend: the balance divided by income. A rate of 20% means you kept a fifth of what you earned.

It is the only number on the page that compares from one month to the next without knowing any of the detail. Two months can have very different spending and the same savings rate: that is the sign the pace is holding. As long as no income has been entered, the rate cannot be calculated and shows a dash rather than a misleading figure. In finance, an honest gap beats a false amount.

What the tool does not do

It does not connect to your bank account, and that is not a temporary limitation. You are never asked for banking credentials. The trade-off is real: you enter your own transactions, which takes a few seconds per expense, and a photo of a receipt fills in the fields when you have one.

It does not tell you what to do with your money either. It shows where it went, what you have left, and how fast you are spending. The decisions stay yours.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, entirely. Creating an account and every feature are free, with no credit card and no ads. YieldMomo is funded by its partners, never by selling your data.

No, and it is not possible. You enter your own transactions, which takes a few seconds per expense. You are never asked for banking credentials, and the app never has access to your accounts.

With your monthly net income. From it, the assistant proposes a maximum amount per category using a benchmark suited to Quebec. Three ways to start are offered: begin from zero and set everything yourself, accept the proposed amounts, or choose the conservative version, which tightens non-essential spending. Nothing is locked in: every amount can be changed afterwards.

A transaction marked as monthly repeats automatically on the same day in every following month, starting from its start date. That is what to use for rent, a subscription or an insurance premium. A one-off transaction counts only in its own month. If the day does not exist in a shorter month, the transaction lands on the last day of that month.

Yes. Photograph the receipt or upload the file, and the merchant, the date, the subtotal, the taxes and the total are read and carried into the form. You read it over and correct what needs correcting before saving: nothing is added to your budget without your approval.

It is the share of the month’s income you did not spend: the balance (income minus expenses) divided by income. A rate of 20% means you kept a fifth of what you earned. As long as no income has been entered, the rate cannot be calculated and shows a dash rather than a misleading figure.

Yes. The cumulative spending curve on the dashboard lays the month you are viewing over the one before it, day by day, so you can see right away whether your spending pace has changed. The navigation arrows go back as far as your transactions do. The line for the current month stops at today: a recurrence planned later in the month does not read as money already spent.

Yes. Planned amounts can be changed at any time from the Budget section, and the dashboard recalculates immediately. The budget is the same for every month: it is a frame of reference, not something to re-enter each month.

Not for now. Categories come from a catalogue of about fifty entries, sorted into twelve groups, covering a household’s everyday spending. A closed catalogue keeps month-to-month comparisons valid and prevents the same expense from ending up under three different names. A free note on each transaction lets you specify whatever needs specifying.

It is deleted with it. Deleting your account is done from your preferences, and it erases your budget, your categories and all your transactions.

Creating the account takes less than a minute, and your budget adjusts as often as you need.
